Nicola Kloosterman (b. 1976, Johannesburg) is an analog collage artist, living and working in the Netherlands. Nicola works with found imagery, placing herself in the role of ‘conversation-starter’ letting two (or more) images “speak” by setting them together. Her inspiration comes from colored paper, textiles cut from fashion magazines and the intuitive creative process itself. By becoming the ‘initiator’ of the conversation Nicola explores subjects as (in)visibility, perception and feminine power.
Her collages have been exhibited in several solo and group shows, as well as featured in well-known art blogs (‘The Jealous Curator’) and magazines (‘ELLE magazine’).
‘I like to think of myself as an explorer and an observer, letting images find each other by making introductions and waiting to see if there is a spark. The joy is really in the process of bringing images together, analyzing the narratives and stepping in to lead. The process requires my full attention and truly connects me to what I am making.’
