Yishay Hogesta
Yishay Hogesta (b. 1990, Tel Aviv, Israel) Currently lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel. Yishay Hogesta’s combination of material and gesture is dynamic and fluid. The painter’s background in cinematography informs his approach to the planning and execution of these large works. The interplay between light, form, and movement create a narrative effect that permits the viewer to examine these process-driven works. The balance and progression of the compositions can be read in stages, with a beginning, middle, and end. Citing romantic symbolism and the Israeli “Want of Matter” movement, Hogesta’s panels are both direct and immediate. Yishai has studied film & art at Minshar School of Art, and have participated in numerous residencies, including Betonest, Germany, 2018 and Parazit Residency, Jerusalem, 2019. His work has been exhibited across Israel, most recently in the Levinsky Library Annual Group Show, Beit Binyamini, Tel Aviv, 2020
